finally

I finally mailed the September CD. Sorry it took so long. Because I know that no one actually wanted to hear the Jonas Brothers, i fudged on the concept just a little for the sake of spreading good music. I picked The National, a band that i didn't hate at first but i was pretty underwhelmed. but then they put out an EP called "Cherry Tree" and it totally turned me around. So i put "Cherry Tree" and the band's latest, "Boxer," on one disc. It should arrive mid-week.

radical to the max buddy. the jonas bros was a good ruse!! i was expecting it.
i like getting a grouping of music by one artist the first time i hear them. i don't know why, maybe because sometimes you hear a good song by a band you don't know, and love it and tell everyone about it, and then you hear other stuff and it's nothing like the first song, and you feel lied to.
the sparklehorse LP 'it's a wonderful life' is hands down in my all time favorite top 10, but when i searched out their earlier work i was confused. in their defense the singer had a near death experience that left him partially handicapped, and that's what 'it's a wonderful life' is about. so i guess he had a new perspective on music writing after that. if you don't know the LP. it'll break your heart if your not careful. (and a good cameo from tom waits).

and a p.s. to jeffrey-
it seems we all usually send out discs toward the last 2 weeks of the month so don't feel bad brother. this time we all were a little late due to life i think.
oh, i saw peter sercey last night, he said you were doing well (and blamed you for not being a zombie ; ) )
i hope power is back on at chez puckett. (5 days was my wait).

i've been listening to this cd for a few days, and like it. i wish i knew the tracks and albums, i wasn't so much into the first few songs so i guessed that it was the ep.
i've always liked the formula for describing music of:
if band A and band B had a baby it would sound like band C.
at first i thought it sounded like if the psychedelic furs backed up lou reed on a later solo record. after a couple more listens i thought it sounded more like nick cave around the murder ballads time collaborating with joy division. a music reviewer once said 'there's a difference between a band that's influenced by joy division, and a band influenced by the band that was inspired by joy division'. this statement made a lot of sense to me and immediately thought of new popular bands that fell on one side or the other of that comment. i'm still trying to decide where i'd put this band. the second to last track stands out to me for some reason.
