possible themes

i've two themes that might be obvious but, hey, i'm new to this.

one would be albums from established bands that were dismissed by the band's fans for some reason or another BUT you love the album (for some reason or another). my example would be the jayhawks' "the sound of lies," which i think is total genius but most jayhawks fans didn't like it because it was the first that didn't feature the band's co-founder, mark olson, who had quit.

the other theme is great records by a band or artist who then completely disappeared, and by disappeared i mean you can't even google that shit.

g'day jeffrey! yay you made it on - and you're already down with the concept. i love both theme ideas - for the first one i contributed one song from just such an album in a past compo (or two), the bpb/tortoise covers album. but i can think of others.

the second has a case in point with young john king here. i wanted to know if there was a gallery singers album because i loved the songs off the lifl annual - when i did google searches all that came back was some choir from vancouver!! does that count? i'd have to think of another because of course you're all familiar with and i'm sure love said work.

and i have to say i laughed at your comment in the other post about the jonas brothers. i love that you're thinking of people's credibility! as a music critic you can get away with owning pretty much anything because in company you can say 'ugh it's hideous but i had to review it'.

looks like you might be going to zombie attack?!

way to be there jeffrey! it took cydde until last week to post! (no offense cydde, you just did such a good job,we need more cydde posts!) great themes, i'll slate them!
i gotta be honest i;m one of those jayhawks fans your speaking of. mark olson's voice is synonymous with...oh, forget it. and we couldn't hold it against you for being a critic, you do what we do, only you get big paid. well, paid at least.
i'd say baby huey counts as one great record and nothing, but we've covered him so i gotta think. (cover yourself)wikipedia just has everything these days, i wonder if doo rag is in there? ( early 90's lo fi blues/rock a billy noise. i loved it)speaking of doo rag, i was given a great cd the other day, scott h. hiram, same genre, some awesome stuff, never heard of him. maybe i got my contribution already!
i'm ahead of the curve! sooo, we have like 6 months worth of themes! maybe we could double up if we got anxious. like do a mix cd theme and a whole lp theme on the same month? let me know!

I can't decide yet if I'm gonna get zombie Friday or not. It's gonna be a last-minute thing for me, but I know my friend Searcy is ready to eat some flesh.

john, I had forgotten about Doo Rag. they had that bad-ass handmade packaging, right? Sort of folded over and had a couple of inserts or something? i liked that album, but i bet that the leaders of that band went on to other things. i'd like to try and do records by people who just completely disappeared. i was gonna pick an album called "Pub" by this band called Denzil, named after the singer and songwriter -- it's like if Costello, McCartney and Noel Gallagher got stuck in an elevator and made a record.

Denzil Thomas completely disappered for years -- until just now. he put up a myspace page and has new songs posted, which is awesome news -- but now I have to pick another album.

and cydde, i have to say that the cover of "thunder road" on that bpb/tortoise album is one of my jams. that's my all-time favorite song and i couldn't believe how much i liked how oldham and tortoise turned it into an entirely different song.

and let's use my home address, cause this for pleasure: 1245 Keswick Blvd., Louisville, Ky, 40217.

u are comming up with some great themes-
we ned to jump on them. any thoughts on the full album theme + mix theme double up month?
my 'destroy me' theme mix is a lot like the comfort record. when i'm about ready to kick the chair out from under me, sometimes the only thing that puts me back together are songs about someone who's right there with me. not being totally alone when someone else is worse off.
all right! the home office it is! i'll send out an updated list, but i all ready sent jeffrey our addresses, and now we have his so i guess we are ret-2-go!

after doo rag, bob logg lll, the singer/guitarist made a name for himself as a one man band/side show act in europe. they did do their own weird packaging. one cd was actually released in a real printed sleeve. then they quit.
yes, your right, doo rag don't really count, but i can think of some that do....
man2man anyone?
