may swap thoughts and kudos!

Hello Everyone!  I just finished listening to Cydde's,  John's, and Leo's cd's and I really enjoyed them.

favorite moments:  REO Speedwagon, I have already congratulated John on the genious of including of these songs, but let me state here for the record, that I love REO Speedwagon!

"hold on" was a pretty great touch too, John.

Cydde- I also really liked "Slave to Love."  For some reason it was very nostalgic, even though i had never heard the song before.  I'll be checking out more Dan Kelly for sure.
have you seen the new movie with Will Oldham in it?  "Guatemala Handshake"   I just saw a review about it and it made me think of you.

Leo-   I love the whole cd.  You did a great job of including lots of different kinds of music that worked really well together.  It was great because I didn't know most of the Artists, but I really enjoyed the mix.  This month sure a had a lot of great covers in- I can't wait to see what you do next month for our covers cd!

oh, I just came up with an idea too:  best and worst songs of each cd.
I think it would be nice to get some feedback each month, and this would be a pretty quick painless way to give it.

what do you think?

ok, so a covers mix for june. and maybe next month best lp's. perhaps REO speedwagon's wonderful 'you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish' might be in there. it's a bad title but great record. i think maybe cydde isn't getting emails right now. speaking of covers, tenny you remember when i gave you a copy of will oldham covering ac/dc's big balls and you hated it? well i hope it has grown on you....
i think a good bad slash and burn is a good idea, if feelings arn't in the balance. i actually really liked that first track of yours, rielo kiely, and i'm not too excited about her in general. and for that matter, i thought big ten was awesome too, and (and i know your gonna hate me) i don't really like escovado. that whole cd was good, some gold fav's and some things i haven't heard before. speeking of covers, i useaully fucking hate bluegrass covers of rock songs, (and most bluegrass, and i know being a kentuckian that's a sin) but i liked the modest mouse cover.
however i wasn't so much into the palace cover on leo's. but i for some reason have a sore spot for palace covers, and also that's my favorite palace track, so i guess i'm just biased. but what do i know. besides that i thought leo's was rad as hell! i have just loved most of the holland music you've sent! on this cd sina ropas especially, and mirah. iv'e never heard of bobby bird either, and thought it was so nice. i just got a cd of 70's soul and funk from florida thats nice. and none of it was ever heard of.
i really liked how cydde put her thoughts of each song on there, i wanted to do that but didn't. and i always want to know when a song was recorded and from what record, and leo did it up right, i need to adopt your dillagence.
is the covers mix covers we like,, or ones we have problems with too?

Hey there, good to hear the contributions fall into good soil!
I'm still waiting to receive John's CD which makes me pretty curious.
John I must admit I don't like most Palace covers as well. This one was put on this compilation because I thought everyone knows the original one. Mostly the covers don't add a lot to the original songs. The good thing is that most of the time the song stays up, but with most of the Palace covers the singer stays to close to the original.

Can you hear Jon Spencer in Bobby Byrd? I can (I think).

At second thought about the covers mix it might be best if we chose covers we like. And I will put in at least one bluegraaslike cover of a rock song! Sorry John.

i put a palace song on mine, and thought the same thing: everyone knows the song, but it says what i want to say. a cover is a good way around it.
also i looked up blimey! today and have to say i loved it. reminds me of sparklehorse. downloads avialable on their myspace page!
i'm really getting into your cd alot!
also, has anyone heard from cydde latley?

Last mail from Cydde was from April 22...
Blimey! is okay but I couldn't really dig them live. And now I just see that he no longer is live on stage. His music sounds nice these days, I kinda lost track but will listen again!

blimey sounds alot like spaceman 3, personal, grimey, and barley held together. it seems like it's just a guy at home laying out his thoughts. most of the tracks on his page are alittle cleaner than this one. cydde sent a message today. i was getting alittle nervous. has my package showed up yet? we had a government holiday that tends to slow up everything.

teeny i meant to say hello before i got onto anything else!

i am so glad you liked slave to love - it was originally written and sung by brian ferry! but i just loved this rendition and helps i have a crush on dan kelly. i might include that as the full album to come with covers this month. speaking of guatemalan handshake, i actually just ordered the dvd off amazon a couple of weeks ago and should get it this week. i don't think it was ever released here when it was made, so i am looking forward to seeing it.

i am also loving the may content - john's really got the sound and the feeling i expected. i think here in australia we didn't really get much of REO speedwagon back in the day so that's something new for me!

anyway, i hope everyone's well and need to continue working on the covers (thank the universe for a holiday tomorrow!)
