may cd swap review/flagship post

iv'e finally figured out how to get us a discussion panel. we'll see how it goes. i know nothing about this service, so if you know of something better, i'm all for it. i figured we could post about our cd offerings and we can comment and so forth. i've sent everyone an invite to set up your profile.
here are some topics for discussion:
1)future themes
-"greatest albums of all time/records you should have but don't"
some records i love, and know others will to but don't have or know about. i.e. jon spencer blues explosion "conterversual negro", brian eno "here come the warm jets" ect.
-anthologies
an overview of a type of music, group, or artist, i.e metal's best moments, jon spencer's side work ect.

2) i had a great time with this months theme. personally, going through a tough time it was very theripudic. i thought at first it would be weird having to make a "you can do it!" compo while depressed, but the more i played the uplifting songs, like "time for me to fly" by reo speedwagon, the better i felt. i would really like to do more theme compos. i realize "best records ever" is not a comp, so i don't much mind if we shelf it for awhile. do you have any theme ideas?

3)what do you think about discussion groups?

Hey, so here we go. Let's see how this goes. I have no idea how long I can keep up with this. Most discussion panels etc. I joined I forgot about after a week or so. Just because I have other things to do it slips out of my mind. But I will give it a good try this time.
To react on John's writings:
1) I love themes. Anthologies are great I think.
I like to do something with cover versions, something like "HOT or NOT?". I mean, you have covers and you have covers. Some add something to the original or can give new insights to the original song. That's HOT. Some covers add nothing to the original song and make them sound ridiculous. They're NOT.
Or songs with only girl names in it or other similar songtitle like themes

2) Glad you liked last months theme, it was the first thing it came to mind but the second thought was that it could be tricky as well. Anyway, I'm glad it worked out fine and I love the CD's I received here!

Okay, I gotta go now, walk some miles with the kids for a school walk. Later!

yeah, i'm not good at it too. but i hope it will be easier than just emailing. once a month of giving your 2 cents about the cds. i like the covers idea. once agian you've got a good one there. can there be a no cat power cluase? not that she's not good, it's just abit too easy. and some origanals feel like the cover sometimes. best-

Okay just onto this now due to email techo problems! I will apologise for any Australian-isms that I write too, if something doesn't make sense let me know. So here we go systematically.

I'll back up the idea for a covers album. I agree with john about cat power and have to admit that I didn't get the first covers album. Actually I'm a bit peeved with her - they came out to Australia back in March as 'dirty delta blues' being Chan, Jim white on drums, Judah Bauer on bass and some guy on keyboard I didn't know. They performed mostly covers that didn't really do it for me, but the clincher was when she publicly humiliated the keyboardist because he didn't play a section the way she would have. The result is that I am avoiding listening to cat power right now! John you said something about genius being a burden...

Anyway, covers it is.

cydde, i somehow missed your comment here untill now. sorry. i made a new post so we can comment on it to mybe avoid me missing things. i miss alot.
i've often told people 'if your a cat power fan do not see her live!' it takes a long time to recover. i saw her once around the covers record peroid, and god it was 2 hours of crying, weeping, staring at the ground, starting songs and then walking off the stage. at one point she blamed the band for her faults and kicked them off the stage and she just sat at the piano pressing one key at a time, not playing any song just taping slowly at keys before slowly walking around the thing and leaving stage altogether. i left, but heard it coninued for another 45 min.
a read an article that swore she had overcome her stage fits, but i don't believe it. i loved moon pix, covers, what the community will think, and free, but can't stand her reborn diva attitude that prevails over her last records. she sings differntly. before it was so intimate, now it's just pre madonna non sense.
it's good to hear juda is branching out. the last time i saw the blues ex, they seemed so tired of the whole thing. they didn't smile or move around the stage. they had their day, and i thank them for it.
he did release some blues rock cds in the late 90's early 00's. i never tracked them down, though i tried.
also, i love your Australian-isms!! keep 'em comming.
